Classic, out-of-this-world debauchery, originally uploaded by Red Fly Studio.

It’s like a crazy, sexy, confusing nightmare, by far the most surreal night at GDC. I went to other parties at dull bars and standard clubs and exceptional clubs, but this is the night I will remember forever.

Holy crap! It’s G4TV’s Adam Sessler!, originally uploaded by Red Fly Studio.

Imagine my pleasant surprise when I approached him as a fanboy and had him return the energy like a mirror.

I showed him some additional pieces of Frank Teran’s concept work that haven’t been released to the public yet, and he nearly flipped his lid. It’s very satisfying as a game developer to see people get that excited about your work, especially someone whom you respect.

A similar scenario played out when I met Alice Taylor from the Wonderland blog the previous night, but I didn’t get a good picture for the blog.

Our host at the spectacular Gamecock party.

We worked with Mike and Harry back in the Gathering of Developers days. They had the same focus and ideology back then, and we were sorry to see them go.

Now they’re back in full force, and all the stars are aligning for us in spectacular ways. The next couple of years will be incredible. Stay tuned…

Happy video game developers, originally uploaded by Red Fly Studio.

Technically, our game studio is barely two months old, but we’ve had the foresight and fortune to get the right people / contacts at the right time.

As young as our studio may be, though, we’re still somewhat grizzled old veterans. Even though there are serendipitous influences aiding our progress, the bulk of our success comes from the wisdom gained from the decade we’ve worked in this industry.

GDC is a time for reconnecting with old friends., originally uploaded by Red Fly Studio.

When Matt Piersall from Okratron 5000 called me, I told him to come meet us in the Marriott bar.
“Wait, are you 21 yet?” I checked.
“I’m 28, now,” he pointed out how time continues to progress, even when you don’t see someone for seven years or so.

Kevin from Microsoft

Another great meeting. Before we hooked up with Gamecock to become a full-fledged game developer, Dan and Kris worked under contract with studios like Epic and Microsoft, providing top-tier next-gen art with unparalleled speed and accuracy.

Catching a little shut-eye in front of the soothing fountain., originally uploaded by Red Fly Studio.

Fifteen minutes until the next meeting. It’s been an insanely hectic week and threatens to go even nuttier over the next few hours. Rest while you can, Kris.

The TRI gang.

Our technology provider. John O’keefe, Drew Haworth and Mark Randel. They stopped by to check out our progress with their Infernal Engine.

The fact that I spent the past eight years at TRI helping them develop that engine and it’s editor gives me an unquestionable advantage in setting up a new studio with the tech. We’re working side-by-side to streamline the licensing procedure, and it won’t be long before other studios start using the tech.
